Certificate III of Early Childhood Education and Care
Course Description
This qualification reflects the role of early childhood educators who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in early childhood education and care services. In doing so they work to implement an approved learning framework within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard. They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other staff.
Entry Requirement:
TGIA’s minimum admission/entry requirements are:
- Prospective TGIA students are required to demonstrate their capacity to complete the course successfully.
- Satisfactory completion of the equivalent of an Australian Year 12 or Certificate IV or higher conducted in English or CHC30113 – Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care
- Relevant work experience will be acknowledged and taken into consideration. Provide satisfactory evidence that the learner has the required level of literacy and numeracy skills to complete the qualification. All students are required to undertake an TGIA language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) test.
Parental Consent:
Domestic students under 18 years of age at the time of enrollment need to provide evidence of parental or guardian consent. They need to be 18 years of old at the time of course commencement.
Work Placement Requirement:
In Certificate III of Early Childhood Education and Care, work placement is one of the essential components to complete the course. Students are required to fulfill the requirements of 240 hours in work placement. Students’ needs to get working with children check before starting their work placement.
Age Requirements:
Students must be 18 years of age or above at the time of their course commencement at the Institute and Students need to provide proof of Australian citizenship/permanent residence and age.
Computer literacy requirements: All student enrolling into Certificate III programs must have basic computer skills.
Employment Pathway:
On completing this qualification, Learners are suited to undertake roles such as:
- Authorized / Nominated Supervisor (children’s services)
- Children’s services coordinator
- Centre manager
- Director (children’s services)
- Childcare educator
- Group/team coordinator/leader (children’s services)
- Children’s adviser (children’s services) Course leader Children’s service director / manager Child development educator
RPL & Credit Transfer:
Opportunities are provided at the time of enrolment, and an option for students to apply at time during their studies.

Course Structure:
To be awarded the qualification, Learners must complete twenty eight (28) units of competency which includes:
- Core units = 23
- Elective units = 5
- All electives chosen must contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome
